Homework Challenge

This week, we have to use the Image Chef website (see link in the side) to create a Word Mosiac.
In class we are having fun with shape poetry.  Image Chef does all the hard work for us.  All we have to do is figure out how to save it properly!!  Here are some examples Mrs Jackson did to show us.
Check back in at the end of the week to see what we each created.

Weetbix Tryathlon

13 of our class took part in the Weetbix Tryathlon at Frimley Park on Wednesday 13th February.  Tired bodies returned to class in the afternoon!  Thanks to Mrs Haronga for taking the photos.

iPads with Room 15

Mrs Shaw invited us to help her class learn how to open, turn on and use some apps on the iPads.  We had a great time, although it was a challenge having to let the 5 year olds do all the touching!

Maths with Room 14

We worked one on one with students from Rm 14 to see if they could make sets of counters.  We loved being the teachers.

Prayer Time

We being each morning with prayer time, where we share our own prayers, listen to a bible reading and sing a hymn.  Mrs Jackson has been very impressed with those who have organised prayers so far this year.

Burning of the Palms

On Wednesday, we participated in the Ash Wednesday Liturgy.  Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, the time we prepare for Jesus' death and resurrection.  Prior to Ash Wednesday, we burnt the palms we had from Palm Sunday last year.  It was the ashes from these burnt palms that the sign of the cross was made on our forehead.

Cycling

Every Tuesday and Thursday, we hit our cycle track to build up our fitness.  Some of us can bring bikes and helmets from home while the rest of us are lucky to make use of the bikes provided by school through Bike On NZ.

Swimming

While before morning tea isn't always the warmest time to go for a swim, the HB weather has been pretty good this week so we coped.  We got to make a whirl pool, create waves for others to swim through, starfish and show we could kick to the end of the pool without standing up.

Respect

At St Mary's, we have 3 Gospel Values - Respect, Responsibility and Reconciliation - that we try to live by.
We started this term talking about and coming up with ideas as to how we can show respect to ourselves, others, the environment and God.

Welcome

The class of Room 5, 2013 welcome you to check out our class blog.  Throughout the year Mrs Jackson will post photos of what we are up to as well as examples of great work.  We'd love our families and members of our school community to comment.
