Hockey
We had our first hockey skills session with Gary this afternoon.
We started without the sticks playing Rob the Nest. The purpose was for us to be aware of those around us without crashing into them.
For the second round of Rob the Nest, the sticks were introduced. We really had to be aware of what was happening around us.
We finished our hockey session with a mini game. We need to work on spreading out and not trying to all get the ball. We should think about all we learnt during our basketball coaching and use that to help us too.
Mrs Jackson needs more practise filming us as she keeps getting the iPad cover in the way!

PALs - Physical Activity Leaders
As we were heading back to class from Basketball, Ryan and Caleb, 2 PALs invited us to join them for a game of Egg Ball. Basically it is a game of soccer but with a rugby ball. It was highly entertaining and I'm sure Mrs Jackson will let us play it again!
Basketball
Today Reece put us into teams so we could play basketball. We have a lot of talented basketballers in our class. Now we have to choose the best 8 ready to challenge Rm 4 next week.

Basketball Coaching
Clinton (an ex Hawks and Breakers player) took us for basketball coaching today. He started by teaching us the three main passes - chest, bounce and overhead.
Clinton also taught us the wrap around and back pass. These passes were a little tricker!
Our competitive nature come out with a few games that put our dribbling skills to the test. In some of these photos it isn't that we dropped or lost control of the ball but the ball was on the downward part of the dribble.

Basketball Coaching
On Monday, Reece from Basketball HB took us for our first basketball coaching session.
We learnt that there are 4 key points to dribbling - use our fingertips; bend our knees; dribble at hip height; look up.
After a warm up and the chance to practise some dribbling Reece taught us some games to utilise our dribbling skills. We really enjoyed Dribble King.

Ball Skills
Yesterday, we went out to practise our striking skills with the padder tennis bats. Mrs Jackson let us show her what we could do. Some of us used the wall to hit up against while others of us were confident to hit long distances.
Mrs Jackson then set us the challenge of seeing how many times we could hit the ball on bat without losing control. Tom managed to get more than 200!! A good challenge for the rest of us to try and beat.

Triathlon
Today we competed in the annual triathlon. We had to run 2 laps, cycle 2 laps and swim 7 laps. Mrs Jackson was very impressed with how we managed ourselves and ensured we had our bikes at school to take part. All our training paid off as we had someone on the podium at the end of each event. The Year 6 boys race was our most successful with all 3 boys coming from Room 5.
Thanks to Libby for taking the photos!
