Reading to Self

In Room 5 we have worked on how to Read to Self.  At the beginning, we could only read for 3 mins before someone got distracted!  Now we are able to read for up to 20 mins.  It often helps that we are sitting outside in the gorgeous Hawkes Bay sun.

New Sports Uniform

Our new sports uniform has arrived.  Samuel and Brooke are lucky enough to have their new set already.  The uniform is very smart.

Aerodrome Visit

As part of our study of Flight we were able to visit the Hawkes Bay Aerodrome.  We had the chance to sit inside a jet (that costs $3000 an hour to hire!!), use the controls on a smaller plane, look at the aerial mapping plane and see inside the workshop where they work on planes and helicopters.

Barefoot 10s

Over the last two terms we have had a team in the Barefoot 10s competition.  Thanks to Taylor's dad who took lunchtime practices and organised us from the sideline.  We ended the competition with victory.

Things that Fly

Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on things that fly.
Your research challenge requires you decide on something that flies – it can be a type of plane, a hot air balloon etc
Instead of just finding out about something that flies you need to consider why the class might want to learn about this e.g. How has the hot air balloon changed over time?
Step 1
What is your umbrella question?
That is the “so what” question for your idea.
Why does this matter to people???

Step 2
Research Questions: (approximately 5)
What do I need to find out to answer my umbrella question?
What are my specific questions?
(eg When was the hot air balloon first invented?  What was the first hot air balloon made out of?)

Step 3
Getting Information
Where can I get the information I need?
What are the key words I will need to search with?

Football - Passing

This week the focus was on passing.

We have to point the toes of our non passing foot towards where we want the ball to do.

We loved the Ghost Busters game we played to practice our aiming.

Final Hockey Session

We have now finished our sessions on hockey (and soccer/football begins next week). Some of us still need to work on being part of a team and looking to pass, others of us got quite good at marking our player and remembering that there only needed one person from each team on the ball.

Life Education

We are studying The Brainy Bunch with Anne as part of the Life Education programme.
On Wednesday we talked abut how our brain is like a walnut, a pillowcase and blue cheese!  Anne introduced us to Tam who taught us about our nervous system.
